Wife of Slain California Mayor Still Not Arrested

Los Angeles-area Mayor Daniel Crespo Sr. was gunned down by his wife of 28 years, Levette Crespo, on Sept. 30. She shot him multiple times after a physical fight broke out between him and his son, Daniel Crespo Jr. It all started when both Daniel and Levette Crespo were arguing, and soon after, the son decided to intervene. When the son did, allegedly the father started to hit him, and that's when the wife got a gun and shot Daniel Sr.

Levette claims that her husband has been abusive towards her for many years, and now she just got tired of it. My whole thing is that, if you're a battered wife, why not go to the police or just leave him? If you decide not to do any these and stay with this abusive husband as she claims, shooting him four times and killing him, isn't the answer to the problem. I think some women use this as a cop-out, by making it okay to kill their husband and then claiming self defense.

If the shoe was on the other foot, I promise you that Daniel Crespo Sr. would’ve been charged already with first-degree murder. Then after, he would be hated by the whole country. I can't stand this double standard. We don't know if she was abused, and if so, killing him in self defense needs to be proved in a court of law. As of right now, she hasn’t been arrested.

Daniel Crespo Sr. was a well respected political person the community. He was known for being a fun-loving human being that loved to serve others. For over 20 years, he was a probation officer serving the people. After that, he decided to become Mayor of Bell Gardens, which is a small suburban community in California. This is such a tragedy for the family, friends, and everyone that loved him around Los Angeles. I don't think that the wife should get away with this. There needs to be a full investigation on this alleged abuse and the gun that killed Crespo Sr.

I'm all for women defending themselves from abusive men, but something just doesn't sit right with me in this situation. Especially from everyone that knew Daniel Crespo Sr. said he was a great man that always wanted to help. His son which is 19-years-old, says that he was just trying to help his mom from his father. I think there's a big cover up going on here, and when the facts come out, justice will be served for Daniel Crespo Sr.

A Death Row Inmate Released After Nine Years in Texas Prison

Former death row inmate Manuel Velez was convicted of murdering his then-girlfriend's year-old son, Angel Moreno in 2005. In 2008, Velez was sentenced to death because the prosecution stated to the jury, that he would be a threat to society. Velez has an IQ of just 65 and was a construction worker at the time of the murder. When he was arrested for the crime, while interrogated him, police made him sign a typewritten statement that said he committed the murder.

After spending nine years behind bars, by which four of them were spent in death row, his conviction was overturned and he's finally released. The evidence that was put forth proves that he was nowhere close to baby Angel when he was injured.

Manuel Velez was 1,000 miles away when the murder took place. The whole time the culprit for this unforgivable murder was the mother, Acela Moreno. She was the one that hit Angel in the head with her hand or an unknown object.

In Acela Moreno's plea agreement, she was to testify against Velez in exchange for 10 years in prison. This is just sad how a mother can kill her baby and then blame it on the boyfriend. When murders like this take place, the police and the courts seem to take the sides of the mother. Before you convict and condemn a person, get all the facts straight and then make your decision.

Velez never had a chance in court from the beginning, justice wasn't on his side. First, because he was illiterate in both native languages, Spanish and English. Being poor in the United States doesn't help either. He was given a court-appointed lawyer that didn't fight for his freedom or his innocence.

Usually the poor in America are the ones to suffer in the criminal justice system. Just because they can't afford a high-power attorney they're limited in options. Their only option in most cases is pleading guilty and receiving less jail time.

As we know, the state of Texas loves the death penalty and what it stands for. It's the execution capital of the country. You have a man that was almost executed because police were hiding evidence and a court-appointed lawyer was just incompetent. Our legal system just proves to us that they're making a lot of errors, and people are paying for them with their lives. Unfortunate but sadly true.

The Jumpsuit: In Ferguson, It Has Come to This

Last week Friday in Ferguson, MO, more than a dozen of protesters were arrested for not complying with police, and resisting arrest. This is getting more disgusting as the days, weeks, and the months go by, on how the police are treating these residents of Ferguson. All hell broke loose when the demonstrators were protesting in front of the Ferguson Police Department.

The protesters that were apprehended by police, seemed to be mostly African American women. This is a damn shame that the county jail has gone this far to embarrass the people of Ferguson. They placed these arrestees in orange jumpsuits, and kept them held for more hours than normal. Let's not even talk about bail, because for some, bail was set for over $2500.

It amazes me how these people are treated while in pursuit to get justice for Michael Brown, who was slain by a white police officer. These bail amounts given to blacks are just excessive and outrageous. There is no need to make them the example because the Ferguson Police Department is annoyed with them, and don't want them to protest, which is their constitutional right in America.

I can understand the police arresting protesters that aren't obeying the laws, that's looting, or just not acting peaceful in a demonstration. Everyone needs to keep in mind that a young unarmed black teen was killed by police. These demonstrations are all about making changes in the community and hopefully in America.

I hope they get rid of these orange jumpsuits and not put them on protesters again. Many of them were arrested for merely just standing on sidewalks. The more negative news that comes out of this city, the more our country looks divided and out of order.

Alton Nolen: An Infatuation With Beheadings

The major news coming out of Oklahoma recently is the beheading of Colleen Hufford, 54, who died Sept. 25. The suspected killer is Alton Nolen, 30, who is currently held in jail and charged with first-degree murder and assault. Nolen's drastic behavior that deadly day, started out when he was suspended from his job for making alleged racist comments towards Traci Johnson. She claimed that Nolen doesn't "like white people".

Alton Nolen wanted revenge for his suspension at Vaughan Foods, so he did just that. The same day he went home to get a kitchen knife and went back to his job. Both of his targets were Colleen Hufford and Traci Johnson, both which are white females.

Hufford was the first to encounter Nolen, as she was then beheaded by the vengeful employee. Then Nolen went after Johnson, as she only suffered a few stab wounds, but was saved by reserve deputy Mark Vaughan. The reserve deputy shot Nolen with a shot gun but not killing him.

Nolen has a history of violence and a long rap sheet. It all started with his drugs conviction and assaulting a police officer. He was sentenced to six years in prison, but was released after two because of good behavior in 2013. I'm not against convicted felons getting back in the workforce and having an opportunity to flourish in society. That's the American way and everyone deserves a second chance at life. But like in every company, you have to be careful who you hire.

This man converted to Islam while incarcerated and then started having hatred for whites. Just because you convert to any religion, that doesn't mean you should hate anyone. Usually that's not tolerated within the community.

The FBI says that on his Facebook account he had photos of Osama Bin Laden and some beheading videos. I don't believe this murder was a terrorist attack as many republican representatives are saying. It was treated as workplace violence as it should be. Nolen wasn't targeting Americans because of a religious belief or some kind of jihad extremist groups.

Alton Nolen had a issue with the company and its employees for his suspension, and he wanted revenge because of it. How he handled it is a totally different story. Nolen shouldn't have gone back to his job to kill his co-workers.

Regardless if he would've been fired or suspended, life isn't over. I can understand in a felons mind, they're thinking that they can't get any other work. But this isn't how you go about it because murder is never the answer. The prosecution will be seeking the death penalty upon his conviction.

We Don't Want or Need Another Bush in Office

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush is considering making a run at the White House in 2016. His brother former President George W. Bush is pushing Jeb to run. He thinks that "he'd be a great president". Many are saying, what took him so long in the first place. Now at age 61, Jeb Bush is really thinking he should. He'll make his decision by the end of the year.

It wasn't no surprise to me that he didn't run for the past 8 years, because he knew the country wasn't ready to for another Bush in office. Jeb's brother George has damaged the Bush name and has given little hope for any other family member to one day be in the oval office. George W. Bush will likely go down as the worst president of all-time. He pushed back our country so far, that today we're still struggling and just trying to catch up.

Waiting was probably the best decision that Jeb Bush has made so far. For one, he's very knowledgeable as a politician I must say. He's also been Governor for 8 yeas of a swing state which is Florida. But I know for sure this country doesn't want a Bush dynasty in the White House. You can bet on that.

Jeb Bush wouldn't stand a chance running against a democrat favorite Hillary Clinton or Al Gore. Bush would definitely get the GOP nomination because he would be considered the most qualified of them all. His name might be very popular to many, but it's also considered a gift and a curse. The Bush name is well known around the world, but it's also damaging as well. What his father and brother put this nation through will never be forgotten.

If Jeb Bush decides to run, he wouldn't have to worry about raising any money for his campaign because he'll have donors lined up that are willing to support his efforts. The Bush family as we know loves the attention and just having another family member in office would make me just lose my mind.

Michael Dunn is Convicted of Murdering Young Black Teen

Nearly two years later justice has been served in the state of Florida, as Michael Dunn was convicted of first-degree murder. When I saw the reports everywhere this evening, it made me really happy to hear the results. My heart went out for the victim, 17-year-old Jordan Davis's family. This was such a tragedy. He was only a junior in high school and didn't even get to live a full life. Now Michael Dunn, 47 will likely spend the rest of his miserable life in jail without the possibility of parole.

I say Michael Dunn is a evil racist that always had it in him to kill an African American. You can say it was premeditated murder, because a man like this was bound to kill one day. Dunn carried hate in his heart for blacks and the music of choice they play, which is hip hop.

You don't see blacks out here killing white people for playing loud country or rock music. Incredible! This story made my day even though it's a sad situation, but as we've seen in the Trayvon Martin case, Zimmerman walked. The people wouldn't let that happen again. Not like this anyway.

Young Jordan Davis was just at a gas station with friends playing hip hop music, so Dunn decided to shot him in cold blood. That self defense argument went out the door when they didn't find a gun on Davis. First he kills this teen, then decides to go to his girlfriend's house to order a pizza. Damn, you can shoot a man then after have the urge for the munchies. Some stories just blow my mind.

I know for a fact that the people of this country can't take another acquittal from a murderer that's killing off innocent blacks. It's just so sad that when you leave your house, you don't even know if you'll return home alive. That's a scary thought.

If you were thinking Michael Dunn was going to show any emotion after the verdict, you were dead wrong. Why would he? He's a former software developer that wears an invisible white robe if you know what I mean. Protective custody has his name on it and will be waiting for him. Without it, he's a dead man walking. May God bless you!

Jodi Arias: Should She Live or Die

Convicted murderer Jodi Arias is back in the news again as she waits for her fate for killing her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in 2008. She's already trying to charm potential jurors in this penalty phase retrial. When they walked in the courtroom Arias eyes were on them while giving them smiles. That tells you everything about this woman. She's always focusing on herself and not victim's family.

When Jodi Arias murdered Travis Alexander in his Arizona home in 2008, it wasn't just a murder, it was overkill. There isn't that much rage, anger and jealousy inside you that you have to stab this man 30 times and then shoot him in the head.

Jodi Arias trial was a big media fiasco in January 2013. The trial went on for five months, and it cost the residents of Arizona a whooping $2.5 million. Now with the penalty phase trial, that number will keep growing and the people are just upset about the whole thing. They just want this whole thing to go away.

I believe that Jodi Arias should be sentenced to life without parole and not the death penalty. Many people do want her to die, because we have to keep in mind, we live in a country that believes in an eye for an eye. Or to put it more bluntly, revenge. I don't like this about our country. Yes, she did a horrific crime that should be punishable, but who are we to make a judgment if you live or die.

I never understood why we practice this cruel punishment in the United States. It's like once someone is murdered we are quick to say as a society, give them the needle. Wrongfully or rightfully convicted, I'm totally against the death penalty. I hope that changes will be made in congress to eliminate this in the future. But do I think they'll stop it anytime soon, not at all.

The prosecution is pushing for the death penalty, but in the first trial the jury was deadlocked. If the newly selected jurors can't make a decision this time, the judge will make his determination of either life in prison or to be eligible for release after 25 years.

This woman doesn't belong on the streets ever again. She should die in prison for the crime she committed. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave her life in prison, just because of the cost of the trials and the frustration of the taxpayers. Protective custody is where she'll likely spend the rest of her life. Jodi Arias couldn't survive a day in general population.
